Singles matches got underway this morning on IMG Academy's campus at 10 a.m., and today was marked by long matches. Notably, 15-year old Alexander Zverev of Germany defeated his second professional opponent in as many days. In a match that exceeded four hours in length and required two tiebreaks, Zverev, ranked No. 130 in the ITF junior rankings, defeated recently-turned pro Sekou Bangoura, 7-6 [8-6>, 0-6, 7-6 [7-5>
Earlier in the day, top-seeded Florian Reynet was faced with his biggest challenge of the tournament against Bjorn Fratangelo. Similarly, the lengthy match required two tiebreaks to settle, but Reynet emerged victorious in the end, besting fifth-seed Fratangelo in three sets, 6-7 [7-2>, 7-6 [7-3>, 6-4.
The main draw doubles finals got underway later than scheduled, but a tournament champion was crowned. After scoring an upset by knocking off the top-seeded doubles team in the tournament, Mohamed Abid and Ryan Thacher emerged as the doubles champions of the IMG Academy $10k Futures - a USTA Pro Circuit event by defeating the tournament's No. 2 seeded team of Romain Arneodo and Benjamin Balleret, 6-3, 3-6 [10-4>.
The singles semifinals will begin tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. on the West Campus clay courts of IMG Academy.
