Briahanna Jackson named Conference USA Freshman of the Year

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - There is no denying the impact rookie Briahanna Jackson has made on the UCF women's basketball team this season. On Monday, Conference USA took notice by dubbing the Tampa, Fla., native as its Freshman of the Year.

Jackson joins Tia Lewis (2007-08) as the only Knight to earn the honor. The news comes as no surprise after the guard highlighted the All-Freshman Team on Sunday.

Jackson is the leading rookie scorer in C-USA with 14.5 points per game and is the top-scoring freshman of the Joi Williams era (since 2007) with 451 points to her name.

Furthermore, she is one of nine players and the only freshman to net a 30-point game this year. Her career-high 34-point outing vs. Missouri State matches Emma Cannon's production versus Memphis in 2009 for the best single-game point total by a Knight during Williams' tenure.

She recently broke the 15-year-old conference freshman single-season steals record, and with 98 to her name, needs five more to match UCF's overall record.

She has been named the league's Freshman of the Week three times, matching the most by a single player this season.

The Knights will square off against Houston in the first round of the C-USA Tournament on Wednesday at noon ET. UCF won the first meeting against the Cougars, 68-55, in the final home game of the season thanks in part to two 20-point performances from Carter and Jackson.

C-USA Digital Network will exclusively stream the first two rounds. Current subscribers to the C-USA Digital Network can click on the watch links and enter password information to view the games. New and school-only subscribers must visit www.conferenceusa.com/allaccess/.

As always, fans can tune into Scott Adams' free audio broadcast, which is also available on mobile devices. Live stats are also available via UCFAthletics.com.

The semifinals and championship game will be played at the Bok Center in downtown Tulsa and televised by CBS Sports Network. The winner of the championship will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
