It has been a big month for IMG Academy golf alumni with Peter Uihlein carding his first professional win Madeira and Giulia Molinaro capturing her first professional win on the Symetra Tour. However, IMG Academy's golf alumni are carding big wins at amateur events, too. On May 23, alumna Kelly Tan, Malaysia's top female amateur golfer, won the Malaysian Ladies Open Amateur. The 19-year-old national number one secured her second championship in three years with an even-par 71 at the East Course of Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club. She was joined at the event by fellow alumnus Cyna Rodriguez, who finished third after the final round.
The very next day, Halley Leadbetter, who is finishing up her sophomore season at the University of Arkansas, won the 98th annual Women's Southern Golf Association (WSGA) amateur championship. The event was held in Killen, Ala. at the Turtle Point Yacht and Country Club, May 20-24.Leadbetter captured the 2013 Amateur title on the 33rd hole of the 36 hole final, Friday May 24, 2013. Leadbetter gained momentum on the 26th hole when she stuck her shot next to the hole location for a conceded birdie to gain a four-stroke lead, and the title.
