IMG Academy baseball program alumnus LJ Mazzilli (class of 2009) was taken in the fourth round of the Major League Baseball Amateur Draft by the New York Mets organization. The son of former big leaguer Lee Mazzilli was selected in the ninth round of the 2012 Draft by the Minnesota Twins, but opted to go back to UConn for his senior season. The 6-foot-1 infielder responded with a solid all-around season, starting 62-of-63 games while pacing the team with a career-best .354 batting average. Mazilli also led the team in runs (50), hits (92), doubles (16), triples (4) and home runs (6).
Mazilli was joined in the draft by fellow IMG Academy alumnus Dillon Moyer (class of 2010), son of former Major Leaguer Jamie Moyer, who was selected in the 38th round by the Los Angeles Dodgers organization. Playing with UC San Diego Tritons in 2013, Moyer was one of just three Tritons to start all 50 games, with all 50 at shortstop, and finished the year tied for first on the team in doubles (16), second in stolen bases (15), and third in runs (33), hits (57) and RBI (28).
