What a year for IMG Academy Girls Soccer alumna Erika Tymrak; named 2012 SEC Offensive Player of the Year; the 11th overall pick in the inaugural NWSL Draft (FC Kansas City); NWSL Rookie of the Year; and now, she is a member of the U.S. Soccer Women's National Team, U.S. Soccer confirmed recently.
The roster features 15 players from the National Women’s Soccer League; two college players in Crystal Dunn from North Carolina (six caps) and Morgan Brian from Virginia (one cap); and Averbuch, who plays for Göteborg FC in Sweden. While the roster features the USA’s usual veteran contingent, Sermanni did give first call-ups to FC Kansas City defender Leigh Ann Robinson and midfielder Erika Tymrak, who won the 2013 NWSL Rookie of the Year Award after an excellent season in which she scored six goals with four assists while appearing in 21 of her club’s 22 matches.
Tymrak also recently finished her rookie season, helping her FC Kansas City squad reach the NWSL semifinals. In the final game against the Portland Thorns FC. Rookie of the Year Tymrak netted the opening goal in the 12th minute. Taking a pass from defender Leigh Ann Robinson, Tymrak found space near the top of the penalty box and fired a shot that snuck inside the far left post. Unfortunately, it was not enough, as Kansas City fell to Portland in overtime by a 3-2 margin.
