The 2013 Eddie Herr International Junior Tennis Championships continue on the campus of IMG Academy, and our own student-athletes continue to make an impression heading into Thursday's Round of 16.
In the Boys 18s, Michael Mmoh (USA) and Naoki Nakagawa (JPN) have been nigh unstoppable. Since struggling early in the first set of his first round match, Mmoh has performed with machine-like consistency. On Wednesday, facing an all-IMG Academy match against fellow student-athlete Alexander Sendegaya (GBR), Mmoh advanced with a 6-3, 6-0 victory. Meanwhile on the adjacent court, Nakagawa made short work of A.J. Catanzariti, 6-3, 6-1.
Additionally, after a brilliant showing in a first-round match that took place less than 24 hours after winning the USTA National Opens in Georgia, Sany Gawande won again to reach the Round of 16. On Wednesday, Gawande appeared cool under pressure and well rested, as she easily dispatched Aleksandra Stankovic (SRG), 6-0, 6-0. Also in the Girls 12s, Whitney Osuigwe (USA) has been winning, and winning big. Through two rounds of play, Osuigwe has won in straight sets, and soundly knocked off Pongruber Vasquez (CHL), 6-1, 6-0.
The Round of 16 picked up at 9:00 a.m. Full results can be found at the Eddie Herr website, HERE.
