On November 14, Andrew McCutchen was named MLB’s National League MVP by a landslide, receiving 28 of 30 first place votes, and becoming the first Pirate to earn the award since Barry Bonds in 1992.The 2013 All-Star finished the regular season as the Pirates’ leader in hits (185), runs (97), doubles (38), batting average (.317), on-base percentage (.404) and slugging percentage (.508). McCutchen, a 2012 Gold Glove recipient, was also effective defensively, finishing with an impressive .982 fielding percentage.
IMG Academy Baseball alumnus J.R. Murphy had a milestone filled month of September. Murphy was called up to the New York Yankees, and singled in his first career at-bat. He also had the privilege to catch for soon-to-be Baseball Hall of Famer Mariano Rivera's final game. Neiman boasts an extensive resume, coaching and developing players at the highest level of college baseball. Before joining IMG Academy, Neiman helped the Millersville Marauders to a NCAA Atlantic Regional berth, PSAC East title and a 65-41-1 record over two seasons. He oversaw the Marauders' infielders, outfielders and base-running, helping the club come within two steals of the school record in 2013.
