David Hollar, an IMG Academy senior and member of the varsity basketball team, has earned recognition for his considerable writing skills. Last fall, the 12th grade Honors American Literature class taught by Mrs. Gareis was asked to keep a writing portfolio. Earlier this spring, the students were then asked to choose a sample from their portfolio to submit to Teen Ink Magazine. The Roslyn Heights, N.Y.
Over the weekend, the IMG Academy’s National Junior Varsity basketball team traveled north to compete in the 2013 National Christian School Athletic Association Basketball Championship Tournament in Erie, Pa., and ended their season with a bang. One of four teams to represent IMG Academy in the tournament, the National JV team came out on top of their division with a record of 3-0 and were crowned champions.
Last night, three IMG Academy basketball program alumni went head-to-head in a critical Big XII matchup between the No. 9 ranked Kansas Jayhawks and the No. 14 Oklahoma State Cowboys. Jayhawks forward Jamari Traylor took on Cowboys forward Kamari Murphy and guard Ford Stuen in a nationally televised battle for first place in the conference.
The second day of IMG Academy’s Beach Blast got off to another exciting start. However, a familiar face was in the crowd of the annual event, Danny Morrissey. Morrissey was the first full-time student athlete to enroll in IMG Academy’s basketball program. He was able to take his talents to the next level at Penn State University. Morrissey now specializes in helping young players through the transition from high school to college, and came to see top prep teams in action.
February 15 marks day one of the IMG Academy Basketball Showcases Fourth Annual Beach Blast. Thirty-eight teams from eight different states descended on IMG Academy for the event this year. They travelled from as far as Texas, New York, and Pennsylvania to compete and showcase their talents in front of college coaches from all over the United States. The tournament got off to a hot start as teams got in their first action of the weekend, leaving visiting college coaches and media with a lot to consider over the next two days.
