IMG Academy's Madison Corley achieved a major milestone, becoming the youngest-ever winner of the Vermont Women's Amateur at the Manchester Country Club in Manchester, Ver., Aug. 13-15. Corley has been a student-athlete at IMG Academy since 2011, and at 17-years of age, has impressed the IMG Academy Golf program with her hard work and focus.
It has been an extraordinarily successful summer for IMG Academy's Matthew De Heus, who won his eigth-consecutive U.S. Kids Tampa Summer Tour event at Feather Sound Country Club over the weekend. De Heus carded a round of 39 in the single-round event, and not only won, but finsihed out his bid for Player of the Year in the Boys 10s division. De Heus overwhelmed the field, winning the honor by more than 140 points.
Recently, LPGA professional Belen Mozo, a native of Cadiz, Spain, was training with the IMG Academy Golf program. She was working to take her game to the next level while her boyfriend Robert Farah, a professional tennis player from Colombia and member of his country's Davis Cup team, was training across campus with the Bollettieri Tennis program.
IMG Academy's own Latanna Stone was featured on WTVT Fox 13's Good Day Tampa Bay this morning. Stone made waves in the world of golf when she became the youngest player in history, at only 10-years old, to qualify for the U.S. Women's Amateur in 2012. A victor in more than 100 events during her career, Stone talked about her decision to join the IMG Academy Golf program, and taught the host how to hit a flop shot.
IMG Academy student-athletes Ariel Yu and Matthew De Heus picked up victories on the U.S. Kids Tampa Summer Tour Championship at Cypress Run Golf Club in Tarpon Springs, Fla., Aug. 18. Playing in the Girls 10-11 division, Yu carded a one-under 35 in the single-round event, besting her opponent by a commanding seven-strokes. Meanwhile in the Boys 10s division, Heus racked up his seventh consecutive U.S. Kids event after recording a two-under 34 to cruise past the field by a whopping 11-strokes.
At the 2013 Solheim Cup, taking place Aug. 13-18, a trio of IMG Academy alumni are taking part in the action. For Team USA, Paula Creamer and Jessica Korda are helping lead the way, while fellow alumna Jodi Ewart-Shadoff of England was selected as a member of Team Europe. On the first morning of play, the Europeans jumped out to an early 3-1 advantage over the U.S., with Korda coming up as America's shining star.
Every week of camp, IMG Academy selects the Athlete of the Week sponsored by Gatorade. The honoree is bestowed the G-Award in recognition of the athlete who displays Heart, Hustle and Soul, and exhibits a true desire to reach their true athletic potential.
Chen advances to U.S. Women's Am quarters
IMG Academy alum Doris Chen is going to find a familiar opponent awaiting her when Friday's quarterfinal takes place at The Country Club of Charleston (S.C.) at the 113th United States Women's Amateur Championship.
Chen faces Lauren Diaz-Yi, of Thousand Oaks, Calif. Diaz-Yi knocked Chen off in the final of the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links earlier this summer by a 10-and-9 score that is a record margin for victory in that event's 37-year history.
IMG Academy student-athlete Claudio Correa impressed at the annual Optimist International Junior Golf Championships in the Boys 16-18 division. He recorded scores of 74, 71, 68, and 71 for a total of 284 to clench the runner-up spot.
