IMG Academy trainee qualifies for 2012 Paralympic Games

David Prince represents the type of athlete we all aspire to be: strong, dedicated and ready to take on any challenge.

Despite the obstacles he's faced, Prince recently qualified for the 2012 Paralympic Games in London following his impressive performance in the 400m dash this past weekend.

Several years ago, Prince suffered from a severe motorcycle injury, causing him to lose his right leg from the knee down. While many would have given up, Prince leveraged the injury and turned his life around. He obtained a sponsorship with HangerOrthopedicGroup, the world's largestprostheticand orthotic service provider, which allowed him to train and compete intriathlonsall over the world.

Following his missed opportunity to participate in the 2008 Paralympics in Bejing, Prince was especially motivated to qualify for and participate in the 2012 London games. In order achieve his goal, Prince knew he had to train even harder than before. He contacted Coach Loren Seagrave, IMG Academy's Director of Speed and Movement, and one of the most renowned speed coaches in the world, to help him pursue his dream.

However, just before his training was set to begin, Prince suffered another setback. While playing with his son on a trampoline, he tore several ligaments and fractured the bones in his knee, forcing him to undergo surgery.Although the weeks following were full of rehab and cardiovascular exercises, Prince gradually began to bounce back. He was soon training with the other world-class athletes at IMG Academy and had his mind set on the games in August.

After watching his progress, Coach Seagrave and his trainers decided he was ready to compete in the trials.

"I told him- Man, do it, you're able to run,'" Seagrave said. Following his advice, Prince qualified for the 400m dash during the U.S. Paralympic Trials in Indianapolis.

Like most Olympians, Prince said the games are "the biggest meet of my career. I'm planning to do really well and hoping to break the world record [50.98>. I'll only have to shave off about 2.5 seconds and with the progress I've made, I think I can do it."

Prince says he would be nowhere without the support from his coaches, IMG Academy, Hanger Orthopedic, Nike, Extreme Endurance, Protein To Go, and his family and friends.

The Paralympic Games start August 29, 2012, following the conclusion of the Olympic Games in London. Prince will run the 1st round of the 400-meter dash on September 7th and the finals on September 8th.
