Two IMG Academy baseball program players, Max Foody and Alfredo Escalera, will join the MLB roster next season as the newest members of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Kansas City Royals.
Following the First-Year Player Draft, Foody officially signed with the St. Louis Cardinals as their 12th pick and the 390th pick overall. During his last season at IMG Academy, Foody was named to the ESPNHS All-State Team, the Class 5A Florida Athletic Coaches Association All-State Baseball Team and was honored by Rawlings and the Perfect Game as an All-American and All-Florida player.
Alfredo Escalera was selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 8th round, effectively becoming the youngest player to be drafted since the inception of the MLB Amateur Draft in 1965. A native of Puerto Rico, Escalera joined IMG Academy in 2008 in order to pursue his goal of playing minor league baseball.
According to a recent Royal's release:
It seems that [Escalera's> effort paid off, he has a low tension swing, backed by a high level bat speed which causes the ball to jump hard giving him power potential. His offensive power, speed and arm strength competes very well with other top players of the remarkable 2012 class.
