With only one more week before playoff time, players across the IMG Academy High School Wood Bat League have really begun to take their game to the next level. Those players who have excelled most are those who have worked hard, both in their on-field drills and in their off-the-field performance training. Here are the players who stood out last week:
Player of the Week - McClain Bradley (Marauders)
A consistent force near the top of the Marauders lineup, Bradley has helped the Marauder's offense become one of the best in the High School Wood Bat League. The right-handed hitter has been named the top performer in several Marauder wins and has absolutely caught fire in recent weeks. Two weeks ago, Bradley's average sat at a respectable .300 but in the past weeks, it has skyrocketed to a .421 clip, good for third-highest in the league. This past week Bradley hit at a blistering .600 (6-10), helping secure his spot as the Player of the Week. Bradley caught the eyes of the baseball staff and coaches on Tuesday when he went 2-3 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI, leading the Marauders to a thrilling 7-6 victory over the Lightning.
Pitcher of the Week - Sam Mason (Hurricanes)
Since his arrival on the IMG Academy campus, Sam Mason has been a force to be reckoned with. Not only does his record sit at a shining 4-0, but he also leads the Wood Bat League with 46 strikeouts. This week, however, Mason was borderline untouchable, allowing only one more hit (3) than he had starts (2). On Tuesday, Mason faced the high-flying Conquistador offense and was simply dominant, tossing a 1-hit shutout. The right-hander went the distance, striking out 8 on his way to victory. Mason would get the ball again on Saturday and was arguably even more dominant. While Mason would give up several walks and a grand total of 2 hits on Saturday, he struck out a whopping 13 Marauders to secure another victory for the Hurricanes. Wood Bat League historians are still searching the record books to see if his Mason's 21 strikeouts in 14 innings are a new league record.
