Incoming SMU Freshman Jessica Bartol has been named IMG Academy soccer program Academies' Girls Player of the Year.
Jessica Bartol was one of five female student athletes to sign letters of intent last February to SMU for the 2010 year. The class includes two of the top 100 recruits nationally, and three regionally ranked recruits. Bartol attended Lakewood High School in the 2009 school year and played and trained soccer for IMG Academy soccer program located in Bradenton, FL.
An outstanding midfielder, Bartol has trained with the US Under-17 National Team, and is a member of the Region III and Florida Olympic Development Program teams. At IMG, she won numerous honors and Player of the Year awards. She is ranked as the No. 16 recruit in Florida by TopDrawerSoccer.com.
Bartol chose the SMU Mustangs athletic program, the only Division I athletic program in Dallas, Texas. SMU sponsors 17 sports and has been ranked as the top school in its conference for 11 of the last 13 years in the Director's Cup overall athletic rankings.
Jessica, age 18, arrived at IMG as a high school freshman from Durango, Colorado. Her parents wanted Jessica to improve her game to earn a soccer scholarship. Jessica's younger sister, Renae, 16, followed Jessica to IMG a year later.
Jessica said she chose SMU for its coaches, campus, and setting and she is currently at IMG preparing for pre-season training with the Division I Mustangs.
Jessica reports to SMU on August 10 as a 2010 Academy graduate and IMG Player of the Year recipient to Southern Methodist University in Dallas for preseason training. Renae, a high school junior, will stay at the IMG Academy soccer program.
Congratulations, Jessica Bartol.
