BRADENTON, Fla. (March 18, 2010) – Combining the expertise of the world’s elite athletic training facility, the vast knowledge of a football legend and experience of a Heisman Trophy winner, the ultimate youth football training ground will debut with the launch of the IMG Academy football program.
Guided by iconic NFL coach/broadcaster John Madden and located at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., the IMG Academy football program will begin with Kickoff Weekend – a June 4-6 camp for all position players nationwide age 10-18. Chris Weinke, who won a Heisman Trophy and National Championship at Florida State University, will serve as director of the Academy. The IMG Academy football program will emphasize the essential elements of successful football, with instructors focusing on “teaching” – something Madden stressed during his coaching tenure.

“I’ve always enjoyed the teaching aspect of football,” said Madden, a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. “The IMG Academy football program is a great opportunity to help youth players improve by teaching them the fundamentals of football.”
The IMG Academy football program will hold various position-specific and all-purpose camps (weekly and full summer) throughout the year.
“Coach Madden’s knowledge, coaching philosophy and reputation are unparalleled in the sport,” said Sam Zussman, Managing Director of IMG Academy and Senior Vice President of IMG Worldwide. “With Coach Madden’s successful coaching curriculum, IMG Academy’ proven experience in athletic development, and Chris Weinke’s elite athletic background, we will provide the premier training environment for the next generation of football players.”
Classroom sessions will include video tutorials from Madden, who coached the Oakland Raiders to a Super Bowl title and finished with an overall professional coaching record of 112-39-7. Athletes will also have access to the eight Athletic & Personal Development program disciplines (Physical Conditioning, Mental Conditioning, Nutrition, Vision, Communication, College Advantage, Life Skills and Athletic Regeneration) that will help them become bigger, stronger, faster and more confident on and off the field.
“As an athlete, I attended IMG Academy in preparation for the NFL Combine and realized there was no better structure and support system to help prepare you for any goal or aspiration,” Weinke said. “I am thrilled to work under the guidance of John Madden, share my knowledge and experience, and help athletes maximize their potential.”
In addition to serving as one of the training location for countless collegiate and NFL stars like Drew Brees, Eli Manning and LaDainian Tomlinson, IMG Academy will host the National High School Coaches Association 7-on-7 football national championships starting in July 2010. IMG Performance experts also created the revolutionary Combine360 measurement system being used at Under Armour Combines for high school athletes across the nation.
Under Armour will also serve as the official apparel provider of the IMG Academy football program.
