On March 6th, representatives from 28 NFL franchises arrived at the University of Wisconsin for the Badgers’ pro day. Wisconsin’s players were gunning to make a lasting impression on scouts, but the main attraction was 2011 Heisman Trophy Finalist; NCAA all-time record holder for touchdowns; and IMG Academy trainee, RB Montee Ball.
As scouts looked on, Ball showed off his speed at Wisconsin’s Pro Day, clocking in at 4.46 seconds in the 40-yard dash. His performance showed that he has the top-end speed to be a feature back in the NFL.
"I knew I was capable of getting under a 4.5," Ball said. "So I'm pretty proud of myself. I had to prove that I can run.”
But running is not all the talented back can do, in his junior year he accumulated 306 yards receiving and six touchdowns on 24 receptions. While Ball was training at IMG Academy, Chris Weinke, IMG Academy head coach and director of football, witnessed the versatile back’s abilities first hand.During an interview with ESPN at IMG Academy, Weinke said, “Coming from Wisconsin, I wasn’t expecting him to be very polished at catching the ball. But he caught the ball effortlessly. He just looks really natural doing it.’’
Ball is a complete back that can make plays. He did it throughout his college football career with Wisconsin. In fact, he holds the record for most touchdowns scored (83) in the history of college football. In addition, he led the Big 10 conference for two consecutive years in yards, and touchdowns. His impressive career at Wisconsin has most draft gurus currently projecting him as the second running back off the board. After his outstanding pro day performance, his draft stock continues to rise.
