On Wednesday, March 27, more than 100 general managers, coaches and scouts arrived at Louisiana State University to check out 14 different potential NFL draft picks at LSU’s Pro Day. Many of the athletes have already proved they’re worthy of a draft pick and were just looking to enhance their stock, while others had a lot to prove.
LSU Safety, and IMG Academy trainee, Eric Reid was simply looking to prove he is the best safety on the board, and repeat his impressive Combine performance. Reid participated in most of the on field drills and had an excellent workout, but he didn’t stop there. In addition, the 6-foot-2 Reid shaved time off of his 40-yard dash time to hit 4.50 seconds, and posted the highest vertical leap of all LSU Pro Day participants (40.5").
Reid had a memorable career at LSU. After playing in all 13 games in his freshman season, Reid earned the starting safety position for the final three games. He carried that experience with him in his sophomore year and had a great season, starting all 13 games; leading the team in tackles (76); and recorded two interceptions, three pass break ups, and two fumble recoveries. His outstanding performance earned him second team All-SEC honors. The IMG Academy trainee and LSU team captain continued playing well in his junior season, starting all 13 games, and recording 91 total tackles. His last game as a Tiger came against Clemson in the Chick-fil-A bowl where he had 10 tackles and recovered a fumble in his final collegiate game. Reid was named a First Team All-American following the 2012 (ESPN, FWAA, AFCA Coaches, Scout.com) in recognition of his consistent high level of play.
Reid also proved his dedication off the field and in the classroom, receiving honors as a member of the Southeastern Conference Honor Roll in 2011 and '12.
Reid’s extensive experience and collegiate career speaks for itself. His combined performances at the 2013 NFL Combine and his pro day have cemented Reid's place as one of the first two safeties off the board in April.
