Austin High School quarterback John Albert Mansour (class of 2015) recently made his third trip to IMG Academy to train with Chris Weinke and his experienced coaching staff. Austin High School is the oldest public high school west of the Mississippi River, but Mansour is on a mission to lead his team toward ending a 58-year span in which his team has not won a playoff game. Austin High competes at the 5A level in central Texas, playing against the likes of Lake Travis, Westlake, and other top programs in the state.
“Chris Weinke and his staff are the best,” Mansour said of why he keeps coming back. “I’ve been to a bunch of other places, but Coach Weinke and his staff are definitely the best at getting me ready to go,”
Mansour continued: “It’s helped me improve tremendously. It’s helped me become the player I am today. All the accolades I’ve gotten would be nothing without IMG Academy and Chris Weinke helping me out.”
Mansour spends hours at a time with IMG Academy coaches on the field to working on footwork, form, and technique. Mansour goes back having learned something new each time. From the first time he attended private training at IMG Academy, to today he has continued to progress.
Mansour’s father, John Mansour, shares his son’s admiration for the skills development at IMG Academy.
“John just loves it here – he loves the instruction he gets, the fascilities and he just feels at home here,” the elder Mansour said of his son’s training. “He’s grown up a lot the past two years training here.”
But Mansour’s not finished racking up awards and accolades. In fact, he plans on making a fourth trip to Bradenton, Fla. before the season when he participates in the All-Madden Mini-Camp this summer at IMG Academy. The camp brings in some of the best high school football players from around the nation, and allows all the players to engage in a camp modeled after the mini-camps and OTAs of NFL teams.
“I participated in [The IMG Academy All-Madden Camp] last summer, too, and it’s great to see the greatest competition in the country come together and play on the same field with the greatest coaching staff in the country.”
