GOLF PLUS: Champions abound

Oscar Sharpe of England, a 15-year-old training at the David Leadbetter Golf Academy-Bradenton, won the Boys 16-18 Division of last weekend's Future Collegians World Tour Leadbetter International, played at IMG Academy Golf & Country Club.

Sharpe shot rounds of 72-71 for a 1-under par 143 total, a stroke better than fellow DLGA student Rocky Khara.

Sally Watson of Scotland, another promising DLGA player, shot 143 (69-74) to win the Girls 13-18 Division by a stroke over Dottie Ardina. Other age-group winners included Nicholas Torrance, Boys 13-15, 151; Stephanie Liu, Girls 12-and-under, 165; and Daniel Jaramillo, Boys 12-and-under, 158.

Sawyer Huth made a hole-in-one on the 142-yard eighth hole using a 5-iron.

Holes in one

• On Jan. 19 at Terra Ceia Bay, John Charlton aced the 100-yard 11th hole with a 9-iron. Witnesses were Ed Mohr and Joe Allen.

• On Jan. 22 at Legacy Golf Club, Andrew Doherty aced the 127-yard eighth hole with a 6-iron. Witnesses were Lucien Kinsolving, Daniel Chen and John Volker.

• On Jan. 24 at The Concession, Marty Monserez aced the 165-yard sixth hole with a 7-iron. Witness was Dave Eslick.

• On Jan. 24 at Pinebrook/Ironwood, Jan Jensen aced the 78-yard third hole with a pitching wedge. Witnesses were Ted Ohneth, Joyce Blink and Jerry Blink.

• On Jan. 26 at Lakewood Ranch, Dale Woodbury aced the 156-yard second hole with a 6-iron. Witnesses were Terry Oldham, Dennis Aster and Greg Duva.

• On Jan. 26 at IMG Acadmies, Sawyer Huth aced the 142-yard eighth hole with a 5-iron.

• On Jan. 28 at Palmetto Pines, Arthur Norris aced the 81-yard eighth hole on the Red Course with a 9-iron. Witnesses were Dave Tindall, Al Perkins and Jerry Ramsey.
