IMG Academy class of 2007 alumnus Arnond "Bank" Vongvanij qualified for the Asian Tour in January this year, and 11 months later secured his first Tour victory atthe King's Cup, held Nov. 29-Dec. 2 in Thailand. On the final day of play, the 23-year old Vongvanijposted an eight-under-par 64tofinishwith a two-stroke win, and upstage heavy favorites and longtime Asian Tour veterans Thaworn Wiratchant and Mardan Mamat, who tied for second.
"Bank's probably got the best bunker game of any kid that has ever been through IMG Academy, so it wasn't a matter of if he would ever win - but when," said IMG Academy Student Athlete Advisor Shane Reiser.
Vongvanij, a native of Thailand, left home at the age of 12 to enroll at IMG Academy as a full-time student, where he worked with coach Jason Suedhof. He moved on to play for the University of Florida's men's golf program, winning three amateur events during his college career.
