The IMG Academy lacrosse program was pleased to team up with the Lax Maniax organization to host the first annual JEM Memorial Lacrosse Tournament weekend. The Lax Maniax Club is a premier high school lacrosse organization for girls looking to play at the collegiate level. On Saturday October 9th, girls from each of the Lax Maniax branches, convened at IMG Academy for a training day which brought together members from each of the four Lax Maniax regions. Athletic & Personal Development program staff were on hand to run the 120 girls ages 13-17 through a dynamic warm-up. Also visiting IMG Academy for the day was the Division I Jacksonville University Women’s Lacrosse team who were on hand to compete in a preseason match up versus the University of Central Florida.
All Lax Maniax members, in addition to local youth lacrosse players, participated in a two-hour clinic facilitated by the Jacksonville University Head Coach Mindy McCord, members of the JU team, and Aly Josephs, Head of Women’s Lacrosse at IMG Academy. On Sunday, IMG Academy lacrosse program hosted the first annual JEM Memorial Tournament presented by the Living Crosse Foundation. The tournament is named for James E. McCord, a benefactor to many programs for youth lacrosse players in Southwest Florida. While on his way to visit family and friends last Labor Day weekend 2009, Jim was tragically killed by a careless driver. Monies raised through the non-profit Living Crosse Foundation will be used to improve access to girls’ lacrosse programs in Manatee and Sarasota counties.
More than 150 girls participated in the unique 5v5 tournament that concluded in a Queen of the Turf tournament on Sunday afternoon.
