Basso brings more than a decade of coaching experience to the lacrosse program. He comes to IMG Academy from St. Joe's High School in Metuchen, N.J., where he served as the offensive and man-up coordinator since February 2011. From 2006-2011, Basso served as the defensive coordinator for the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, in addition to managing youth clinics and NCAA compliance for the Knights. Basso has also coached for the Iroquois National Team (Assistant Coach, 2005-06), Hartwick College (Head Assistant Coach, 2004-06) and Rutgers (Volunteer Assistant Coach, 2002-04).
A native of Hicksville, N.Y., Basso graduated from Rutgers in 2002, after having played two seasons for the Scarlet Knights. A two-year letter winner, he was the 2002 recipient of the Knight Cup, awarded to the player "who has played the game of lacrosse to the best of his ability, who has, by example, led his teammates both on and off the field and who, above all, has consistently demonstrated the qualities of unselfishness and loyalty to his team and Rutgers University." Basso played primarily defense and long-stick midfield, collegiately.
âI'm really excited for Jason Basso join the staff here at IMG Academy,â said Bill Shatz, Director of Lacrosse, IMG Academy. âJason brings a wealth of knowledge to our staff, accumulated over a decade of playing and coaching at the highest ranks of high school, collegiate and national team competition.â
The addition of a defensive coordinator comes just months after IMG Academy launched an Academy lacrosse program and high school team. Throughout the summer, players from across North America enrolled, rounding out the 21-man inaugural roster. Fall and spring competitive schedules, which feature national and international competition, will be announced shortly.
