Summer is the perfect time for ITF competition and tournaments. It also gives IMG Academy Bollettieri tennis program students a chance to excel and gain ITF points. This past week, three IMG Academy Bollettieri tennis program students succeeded in ITF Tournaments.
Yoshihito Nishioka, a.k.a "Yoshi", won this year's Raquette D'OrITF Tournament in Morocco. The tournament was a Grade 2.Nishioka is from Japan and was seeded second in the draw. In the earlier rounds of the draw, Nishioka breezed pass the competition without loosing a set. It was until the seminfinals he had a difficult matchup against the number four seed. Nishioka played an intense three set match, winning 6-2 in the third. In the finals, the number one seed, Karim Hossam, was no difficulty for him. Nishioka crushed him inthe first set, 6-1, and won the second 7-5. Currently, Nishioka's ranking is 83 and his career high has been 82. He has a current year singles record of 23-9 and a career singles winningrecord of 44-21.
Morocco wasn't the only country where anIMG Academy Bollettieri tennis program student shined. Down in thesunny Caribbean country of Aruba, two more IMG Academy Bollettieri tennis program students excelled in both singles and doubles. To first begin, Jordan Daigle had an amazing tournament, winning the entire singles draw. The tournament was a Grade 4. Daigle, from USA,was unseeded and fought hard to beat top seeded players. In the quaterfinals, Daigle crsuhed his 6th seeded opponent with an easy score of 6-0, 6-2. In the semifinals, Daigle had a tough match against the number two seed. But a seeded player did not intimidate Daigle, he defeated his opponent with a close score of 6-1, 2-6, 6-4. Diagle went on to beat a fellow unseeded player in the finals with a score of 6-3, 6-3. Daigle is recovering from an injury and is just begining to play ITF Tournaments again. However, this is not Daigle's first Summer ITF Circuit win. He also won the Bank of Bermuda Foundation ITF Junior Circuit Tournament earlier in June.
Daigle wasn't the only Bollettieristudent winningin Aruba. In doubles, IMG Academy Bollettieri tennis program student, Naoki Nakagawa, was a finalist. In the first round, Nakagawa and his doubles partner, Guilherme Hadlich, defeated thethird seeded doubles team with a score of 6-2, 6-4. In the finals, the duo had a difficult and extreme match. They lost to the fourth seeded doubles team in three sets. Nakagawa and Hadlich won the first set, 6-4, but lost the second, 6-3. They played a super tiebreaker to determine the third set and champion.Nakagawa and Hadlich lostwith a close score of 7-10. Nakagawa has a winning careerdoubles record of 14-11.
IMG Academy Bollettieri tennis program students will continue to travel and compete in the Summer ITF Circuit for the rest of the summer.
