The Magic needed more toughness, and to get it, they committed just under $26 million over the next four seasons to Davis in a sign-and-trade deal with the Boston Celtics. The Magic also received swingman Von Wafer, while the Celtics took Brandon Bass.
Magic officials view him as an upgrade over Bass at power forward, and they hope Davis will delight in doing some of the dirty, gritty work that was lost when the team didn't re-sign small forward Matt Barnes after the 2009-10 season.
Davis, 25, spent much of this past offseason working at IMG Academy basketball program in Bradenton.
His 6-foot-9, 289-pound frame â always the subject of intense scrutiny â looked chiseled as he flexed his muscles during a media day photo shoot.
He forwarded the picture over Twitter, writing, "Wow look very jacked up!!"
