After a spell in the English Premier League, one season in Greece and now his second stint in Major League Soccer, Eddie Johnson has earned what he worked so hard for at IMG Academy in the offseason -- an All-Star nomination.
Johnson, a forward for the Seattle Sounders, and the rest of the MLS best will face 2012 UEFA Champions League winners Chelsea FC tonight in Philadelphia.
Johnson spent a significant amount of his offseason training with fellow MLS players Freddy Adu and Zak Boggs at IMG Academy.
"Eddie was a very committed athlete here at IMG," said Scott Dean, Director of the soccer program. "Eddie trained with me on an individual basis working on his individual skill set followed by training with our U18 Development Academy team working on team components of the game. Eddie was a true professional in his approach to training and work ethic and was a great example to our younger players."
Said Trevor Moawad, Director of Performance at IMG Academy: "EJ was a man on a mission. Every now and then when you've been with a 'phenom' from an early age you can sense when they are ready to take it to another level. Eddie was fed up with 'being average' and focused on getting back to the top. All of our coaches and specialists who worked with him did a super job."
