Super-20 League Crowns Men's and Women's Champions at IMG Academy

This past weekend, IMG Academy teamed up with the USL to host the Super-20 League 2012 Finals on the IMG Academy campus in Bradenton, Florida. Some of the most talented soccer players in the country took the field as 24 of the best Super-20 League teams met with both a men's and women's champion to be crowned. Pool play kicked off early on Thursday and would last until Saturday when 4 men's teams and 2 women's teams would advance to the playoff round. On the men's side, the Chicago Fire (3-0-0) took on FASA (2-0-1) in the semifinals with the Crew Juniors (3-0-0) matching up against the Texas Football Club (2-1-0). As they had throughout the tournament, both the Chicago Fire and Crew Juniors dominated the competition, earning a spot in Sunday's Super-20 League final. On the women's side, the DC United Women and Colorado Rapids advanced from pool play to earn their chance to play in the women's final on Sunday.

With the women's final scheduled first, the DC United Women and Colorado Rapids locked themselves in a tight battle with the title on the line. Luckily for the Rapids, they had Tournament MVP Karisa Price and Safe Hands Award-winner, Hannah Clark who would prove to be vital in their run to the championship. Price assisted the Rapids' Anna Evans to score the game's only goal in the 26th minute while Clark shut down a DC United team (that had scored 10 goals in its previous 3 games) to secure the Women's Super-20 League title.

At the conclusion of the women's match, the high-scoring Chicago Fire and Crew Juniors took the field to battle for the men's crown. Led by Luis Medina and all-tournament standout Felipe Cortez, the Fire once again showed their dominance scoring 3 goals against a great Crew Juniors squad. On the other side of the field, the Fire would hold the Crew Juniors to just one goal, securing the Men's Super-20 League title. Shortly after the tournament, Cortez would be named Tournament MVP with a goal and 3 assists over the course of the tournament.
