It was a good day for two IMG Academy Bollettieri Tennis program alums as they both had nice wins over two very good players. Tommy Mylnikov, the 2011 Boys 16s Eddie Herr Champion, kicked off the day by beating the #2 seed, and one of the very best young players in the world, Borna Coric, 6-7 (2), 6-3, 6-3 at the Japan Open Junior Championships to reach the third round. The match was moved from outside to inside and then back outside so not only did he beat a top player, he did so under some not-so-ideal conditions. Mylnikov has been training at IMG Academy since 2008.
Ricardas Berankis, who has been training at IMG Academy since 2008, picked up where Tommy left off, defeating the #4 seed and world #28, Florian Mayer, at the Stockholm Open. The win puts Berankis in his third ATP World Tour quarterfinals of the season where he will face the winner between Alejandro Falla and Marcos Baghdatis.
Congrats to both and good luck in the next round!
