Over the weekend, IMG Academy's Alejandro Tabilo won the U18 Candian Junior National Championships in singles and doubles. The victories marked his ninth and tenth Canadian national championships. Seeded third, Tabilo defeated No. 2 seed Alexander Day, 6-4, 6-2 in the final to add to his already outstanding junior nationals title total. Tabilo is a former champion at the U14 and U16 level. In doubles competition, Tabilo partnered with his finals competitor Alexander Day and went on to win the doubles title. Day and Tabilo defeated Dylan Bednarczyk and Harrison Scott, 6-3, 6-1.
Tabilo comes to IMG Academy from Mississagua, Ontario, Canada. In addition to his 10 Canadian national titles (six singles, four doubles), Tabilo took the singles title in the Eddie Herr Boys 14s (2011), and boasts two Junior ITF doubles championships and an Orange Bowl doubles championship.
Currently, Tabilo is back in action at the Coasta Rica Bowl, being held April 8-13. Tabilo defeated his first round opponent, Mexico's Santiago Cevallos, 7-5, 7-6(3). At the event, Tabilo is joined by fellow IMG Academy student-athlete Basil Khuma (India), who likewise won his opening match, cruising past Daniel Gutierrez (Costa Rica), 6-3, 6-2.
