IMG Academy All-Madden Mini-Camp alumnus, Richard Allen, is moving on to play football for the Tulane Green Wave with a full-ride scholarship. Allen, a native of River Ridge, La., showcased his talents in the 2012 All-Madden Mini-Camp. Prior to this camp, Allen was selected to the 2A All-State, All-Metro and All-District teams, but this was not enough. In 2012, he applied what he learned at the All-Madden camp and became a 2012 Second-Team Max Preps Small Schools All-American, received First-Team All-State, All-Metro and All-District honors, and was selected to the Louisiana Football Coaches Association All-State Team Class 2A. Allen led his team, John Curtis Christian School, to become State Champions in 2012, recording two interceptions in the game held at the Mercedes Benz Superdome. They finished the season ranked No. 1 after their stellar performance in the State Championship Game, and were crowned National Champions by seven national high school polls (USA Today; Rivals.com; Prep Nation; Scout.com; MaxPreps; High School Football America; and Prep Force). Richard Allen was also named the No. 1 Special Teams All Classes Punt Return Leader in the State of Louisiana, with four punt returns for TD’s in the 2012 season.
His talents, however, stretch beyond the football field and into the track arena and classroom. He competed in the 55-meter dash, finishing in the top 100 in the nation, and the 100 meter dash, finishing in the top 200 in the nation. He was a member of the 4x200 relay team which finished 37th in the nation for indoor and 17th in the nation for outdoor.
Allen also recognized the importance of academics and strived to achieve academic excellence throughout his time in high school. He was involved in the honors program all four years, and graduated as Co-Valedictorian with a 4.0 GPA. Allen received many awards for academic excellence such as: LHSAA All-State Academic Football Composite Team, LSHAA Academic Track and Field Composite Team, School Winner of the Wendy's High School Athletics Academics Leadership Award, and WWL TV A+ Athlete, to name a few. Allen credits the IMG Academy coaches for stressing the importance of academics and being a scholar-athlete.
Richard Allen will begin training at Tulane in July.
