By leading the Southeast Division with 18 points, the IMG Academy U20 men’s soccer team (6-1) earned their place to compete for the USL Super-20 League Championships. The season-ending championship is the premier event of the summer for the Men’s Super-20 League, and will take place at IMG Academy, July 18-21. The event features the top U-20 developmental teams in the nation, comprised of top NCAA and Major League Soccer Prospects.
“[De Vries is] a very composed player with the ball,” said IMG Academy soccer manager Lucas Kim. “And he communicates well; he acts like a coach on the field. He is very good at getting us out of pressured situations.”
To qualify for the championship, teams have to top their divisional standings at the conclusion of the regular season. Facing one of the most competitive divisions in the Super-20 League, IMG Academy defeated Orlando City SC (13 points), Tampa Bay United (12 points), VSI Tampa Bay FC (10 points) and PDA-Florida – formerly FC United (2 points). In other divisions, Beachside SC of CT won the North Atlantic East Division with 17 points, Reading United AC secured the North Atlantic West bid with a whopping 27 points and Western United Pioneers proved victorious in the New England Division with 11 points.
Coached by Marcelo Carrera, Ferdi DeMatthaeis and Oscar Pisano, IMG Academy’s squad features standout players forward Raymundo Marquez and defender Francis de Vries, who led the team in overall season goals at five and six, respectively.

- Sunday, July 21st, 10:00 am: Final at IMG Stadium
