Today at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla., dozens of the most elite college football prospects will square off to showcase their skills before a nationally televised audience. Among the players taking the field today are IMG Academy's own QB Michael O'Connor and RB Bo Scarbrough. Scarbrough led the team in rushing with 1,118 yards and 16 rushing touchdowns as the team finished the season with an incredible 9-2 mark in its inaugural season. However, for O'Connor, the Under Armour game brings the Ottawa, Canada native's story full circle since deciding to leave Canada to pursue his love of football.
Today, O'Connor's history with the annual Under Armour All-American game was chronicled in USA Today High School Sports:
A year ago, quarterback Michael O’Connor played in the Under Armour All-America Underclassman Combine. This year, after leading IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) to a 9-2 record in its first varsity season, he’s back as a player in the Under Armour All-America Game.
“It was really awesome being the first team ever to play at IMG, but it also took some getting used to with the playbook and teammates, but by the end of the season, we were really rolling,” O’Connor said.
O’Connor, who is from Ottawa, Canada, has committed to Penn State and said he plans to enroll early.
O'Connor and Scarbrough will team up one more time as members of Team Highlight, when they take the field in St. Petersburg. The game is set to kick off at 4:00 p.m. and will be televised nationally on ESPN.
