87 D1 Commitments Since 2013

Program Structure

The program is comprised of two varsity football teams. The IMG Academy Blue squad takes on a national schedule against many of the nation’s most elite programs. The challenging schedule is designed to provide the highest level of competition, while also exposing the team to different styles of play. The Varsity White team, introduced in 2017, competes primarily in Florida against the state’s top Class 3A and 4A programs. Players on both teams will practice alongside one another throughout the year under the guidance of an experienced coaching staff with more than 40 combined years of college and professional experience.

College Exposure & Placement

During the 2017 spring evaluative period, more than 230 different coaches from over 120 NCAA Division I programs, including U.S. military service academies and the Ivy League, visited campus to recruit student-athletes. With the growth of IMG Academy’s program, so too has the level of collegiate exposure each player receives. Since the addition of varsity football, more than two-thirds of graduates have gone on to join NCAA Division I FBS programs.

To further aide students seeking to continue their playing careers into college, each student has access to a dedicated College Advisor. An advisor’s role is to help every student navigate the requirements of the NCAA Eligibility Center and find the best athletic and academic fit at the next level.

ACADEMICS AND ATHLETICS

During the school year, students will spend their mornings in class with three 90-minute courses per day. Faculty also keep open office hours daily for anyone seeking additional help on a subject. The curriculum is comprised predominantly of core classes: mathematics, science, humanities and art. Students who are in need of additional assistance in the classroom have access to the Learning Resource Center (LRC), which offers personalized academic guidance. Students may also take advantage of added private tutoring for any school subject, or for standardized test preparation for the SAT, SAT II, ACT or TOEFL. From Sunday through Thursday each week, players also have mandatory study sessions in the evenings after 7:30 PM. During that time, subject-specific tutors are available for those with specific learning needs.

With such a diverse population at IMG Academy, international students have access to the English as a Second Language program (ESL). It is designed to empower non-native English speakers, from beginners to the more advanced, to make the most comfortable transition to U.S. culture.

Success stories

Deondre Francois lead the IMG Academy Ascenders to a 9-1 record in 2014 and earned Under Armour All-American Honors. Regarded as the No. 1 dual-threat QB in the country according to Rivals he quickly surprised the college football world when he was named the starting quarterback as a redshirt freshman at Florida State. In his debut, Francois dazzled a national audience by leading FSU to a school-record 22-point come-from-behind victory over the Ole Miss Rebels in the season opener, 45-34. He finished the season leading all freshman passers with 3,350 passing yards, adding in 20 passing touchdowns to only 7 interceptions, and recording a 10-3 record and 33-32 Orange Bowl win over Michigan. He was named 2016 ACC Rookie & Offensive Rookie of the Year. Francois is also a winner in the classroom, earning a place on the 2015-16 ACC Academic Honor Roll.

At IMG Academy in 2013, Bo Scarbrough led the team to an 8-2 inaugural season record with a program-record 1,118 rushing yards, and 16 rushing scores. Scarbrough earned Under Armour All-American honors and a five-star ranking in the 247Sports, Scout.com and Rivals.com rankings. At Alabama, Scarbrough exploded onto the national stage in 2016 when he won Offensive MVP honors in the College Football Playoff semifinal against Washington. In that game, he rushed for 180 yards on 19 carries (9.5 avg.) and two touchdowns. He ended the year as the primary starter for the Crimson Tide, finishing his sophomore season with 812 yards on 125 carries and 11 rushing scores.
