In the month of January the NYX Golf player of the month for the boy’s 15-18 age division was Sameer Merchant of Bradenton, FL. Merchant was phenomenal in the JWU Series at IMG event in Bradenton, FL where he shot a two day total of three under par. Merchant started off with a strong opening day 73 before following that up with a beautifully played second round 68. Merchant led the field with an astounding 10 birdies and broke par on an impressive 27.8% of holes. The most impressive of these birdies was a chip in on the 17th hole on day two that gave Merchant the lead for good.

QingYi Xu of Bradenton, FL was the player of month for January in the girl’s 15-18 age division for her performance at the JWU Series at IMG. Xu beat Oi Lam Michelle Yan, also of Bradenton, FL after being neck and neck for most of the two day tournament. Xu shot a two over par 146 for the tournament which was the best score of the month for any girl in her division. Xu did most of her damage on the tough course on the par three and par four holes where she tied for the best average with a 3.00 and 4.10 respectively. Xu also finished with the best pars or better percentage at 80.6%.

The NYX Golf player of the month for the boy’s 11-14 age division was Teddy Tetak. Tetak, like both Xu and Merchant, excelled in the JWU Series at IMG. Tetak, from Slovakia, shot a 74-71 for a two day total of one over par. Tetak pulled away from the field on par five holes where he led with a 4.88 average. Tetak was extremely consistent over the two day tournament scoring 29 pars and he had a 88.9% pars or better percentage, both of which led the field by a wide margin.

Merchant comes to IMG Academy from Pakistan, and was also the recipient of the Gatorade "G" Award for the golf program in January. Symba Xu, a native of China, is emerging as one of the top girls currently in the program at only 13-years of age. Teddy Tetak, a native of Slovakia, has been on fire in the 2012-13 season by recording two wins on the IMG Junior Golf Tour (Kickoff at Sara Bay and Laurel Oak) and being named the 'Most Talented Slovak Golfer' after a win at Velka Lomnica, Jan. 13-15.

Congratulations Sameer, Symba and Teddy on your well deserved achievements!
