Over the weekend, the IMG Academy’s National Junior Varsity basketball team traveled north to compete in the 2013 National Christian School Athletic Association Basketball Championship Tournament in Erie, Pa., and ended their season with a bang.  One of four teams to represent IMG Academy in the tournament, the National JV team came out on top of their division with a record of 3-0 and were crowned champions.

“I commend both Coach Yusef Fitzgerald and our future young varsity players for their outstanding individual and team accomplishments earned during the recent tournament event in Erie, Pa.,” said Kenny Natt, Director of Basketball, IMG Academy. “I'm convinced that their hard work and focused efforts in practices all season has paid tremendous dividends toward preparing them for the success they experienced in this event, and all future events in representing IMG Academy.”

Coach Yusef Fitzgerald was able to lead his team of 8th through 10th graders to the championship against teams made up primarily of juniors and seniors. Even more impressively, the National JV team maintained an average margin of victory of 27 points on the weekend.  Jarrell Jones (Class of 2015), Steve Tankou (Class of 2015) and Cristian Jackson (class of 2016) were selected for the all-tournament team in recognition of their standout performances at the event. This tournament will mark the end of what has been an incredibly successful season for the National Junior Varsity team, finishing with an overall record of 27-5.
