IMG Academy Soccer alumna Erika Tymrak is having a great year in 2013, and added another accolade to her résumé when the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) named her Player of the Week for week 15. The FC Kansas City rookie got the nod for the honor after she had a goal and assist for her team in a 2-0 victory over Seattle Reign FC in Saturday’s match at Verizon Wireless Field at Shawnee Mission North District Stadium.
Tymrak set up Lauren Holiday for a goal in the 39th minute to give FC Kansas City a 1-0 lead. In the 86th minute, she eluded three defenders before connecting on a low, curling shot past Seattle goalkeeper Hope Solo from the edge of the box. It was Tymrak’s sixth goal of the season and fourth in the last six games.
Earlier this year, Tymrak was the eleventh overall selection of the inaugural NWSL draft. Prior to the draft, Tymrak had earned SEC Offensive Player of the Year honors after being Florida’s 2012 leader in goals (9), assists (12), points (30) and game-winning goals (5). Behind Tymrak’s incredible effort, the Gators finished with a 19-5-1 overall record (11-2-1 SEC), an SEC Championship, and an appearance in the Round of 16 in the NCAA Women’s Soccer Tournament.
