IMG Academy student-athlete Pedro Junqueira, a native of Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, has been fine tuning his game all summer to go into the new school year with momentum, and got off to a great start when he won the Brazilian Junior Championship. The 16-year old Junqueira notched a come-from-behind six-stroke victory to become only the fourth player to win both the Brazilian Pre-Junior and Junior Championship. He recorded rounds of 75, 74, and 65 for the tournament. He went two-under for the championship, and in the final round made seven birdies and one eagle to set the new course record during the event.
"I played well all week, the first and second round scores do not reflect the way I played." Junqueria said. "But I knew I needed to make something happen on the final round and I am glad my game came together at the right time."
Junquiera continued: "I would like to thank everyone at IMG Academy, in particular, Shane Reiser, Grant Price and Nick Panetta.”
Junquiera overcame a six-shot deficit to win the tournament. He heads into the school year with confidence that will help him to succeed further on the course. This has been his most important win of his career thus far.
