Barry University's No. 1-ranked men's golf team won the Guy Harvey Invitational, using a 10-under 854 to captured their second straight 54-hole tournament of the season. Barry newcomer and IMG Academy Golf program alumnus, Mario Beltran, and teammate Adam Svensson were crowned co-champs, each shooting 5-under 211 to force a playoff with Flagler's Spencer Schindler. Beltran and Svensson each parred the first playoff hole, while Schindler had a double-bogey, and then elected to share the medalist honor.
"Mario is not only a great player, but an even better person with lots of talent and ability," remarked Senior Instructor Grant Price, who coached Beltran at IMG Academy. "He worked extremely hard for me last year and was very serious about taking his career further and making his mark in college. He has a great team and great competitive spirit that will help him develop as a player and person."
Beltran, a native of Valencia, Spain, graduated from IMG Academy as a member of the Class of 2013. Prior to graduation, Beltran was the 2012-13 IMG Junior Golf Tour Player of the Year in the Boys 15-18 division.
