IMG Academy's Boubacar Moungoro to play for pro team in Spain
IMG Academy’s Boubacar Moungoro, a native of Bamako Mali, Africa, has signed a three-year deal with Spain’s Baloncesto Fuenlabrada. The 6-foot-6 forward was ranked among the top prospects in the ESPN100, Top247 and Rivals 150 for the Class of 2014.
“Boubacar has been a model student-athlete for us, always seeking to better his game and take advantage of the resources available to him at IMG Academy to become not just a better player but also a leader on the court,” said Kenny Natt, Director of Basketball, IMG Academy. “We are very proud to see his incredible dedication to the game of basketball reward him, and we look forward to him representing IMG Academy well at the highest level of international basketball.”
Moungoro arrived in the United States in 2010 to continue his development through the Amar’e Stoudemire Foundation, a youth outreach program designed to creatively inspire and help at-risk youth to succeed with the goal of eradicating poverty through education. Recently, as a member of the Foundation’s elite Each 1 Teach 1 (E1T1) Elite AAU travel team, Moungoro led his team through a two-month win streak this summer, averaging 20+ points per game.
Remarked Dan Barto, Head Skills Trainer – NBA Development, IMG Academy: “Three years ago, Boubacar was a relatively unknown prospect, but he has quickly proven himself to be one of the fastest, most athletic players we’ve ever had [at IMG Academy]. He refined his basketball skills, gained a better understanding of the game and the English language and, as a result, has earned a tremendous opportunity to play at the highest level of European basketball where he will no doubt succeed.”
Fuenlabrada has been a member of Liga ACB for 13 years, the highest division of Spanish professional basketball, and is generally regarded as the second most competitive league in the world behind the NBA. Moungoro will play for first-year Head Coach Chus Mateo, who most recently coached the Shanxi Zhongyu in the Chinese League.
