IMG Academy's Gianna Tomeo wins Utah Junior Open; qualifies for Big "I" National Championship
The IMG Academy golf program's Gianna Tomeo qualified for the 45th Trusted Choice Big "I" National Championship, the third-oldest junior golf event in the United States, after winning the Utah Junior Open qualifier. The Utah Junior Open was held at the Glen Eagle Golf Club in Syracuse, Utah, July 2-3, and Tomeo dominated the field in the girls 15-18 division. She finished with rounds of 72-72, and besting second place finisher Kerstin Fotu of Highland, Utah by six strokes. The qualifiers for the Big "I" National Championship are hosted across the country by more than 200 Independent Insurance Agents across the United States who donate their time and money to conduct the events. This year's Big "I" National Championship will be held at the Country Club of North Carolina in Pinehurst, N.C., Aug. 5-8.
Tomeo works with IMG Academy coach Kevin Collins, and was the Bradenton Herald's Player of the Year in 2011 and 2012. She won the Piedmont Classic at Duke University in January 2013, and the 19th Annual Donald Ross Invitational in October 2012.
