Every week at least one athlete from each sport will earn the Gatorade G-Award/IMG Academy Athlete of the Week for displaying Heart, Hustle and Soul, and exhibiting a true desire to reach their true athletic potential.
The IMG Academy Baseball winner of the Gatorade G-Award for the week of June 17 is 12-year-old Ryan Lau from San Mateo, Calif.
Who is your coach?
Coach Pete Paciorek.
What is your favorite thing about IMG Academy and why?
The coaches are very scientific. I've had some coaches that on my fielding say "throw the ball hard." When I ask them how to throw the ball hard, they tell me "just do it," but at IMG they've developed a throwing program that breaks down the throwing motion into three very simple stages and it's improved my throwing by about 50% in the last two weeks.
Do you have any pre-game rituals that help you prepare for a big game?
I just basically close my eyes and think about what I can on different plays.
What professional athlete inspires you the most?
Albert Pujols. I love his swing; it's very simple.
What is your favorite thing to do after you win a game?
I just run around and go crazy.
What motivates you to push through a tough practice?
Just the love of the sport and wanting to get better.
