Samantha Messing of Los Angeles wins IMG Academy Girls Soccer Gatorade G-Award Week of July 29
Every week of camp, IMG Academy selects the Athlete of the Week sponsored by Gatorade. The honoree is bestowed the G-Award in recognition of the athlete who displays Heart, Hustle and Soul, and exhibits a true desire to reach their true athletic potential.
The IMG Academy Girls Soccer winner of the Gatorade G-Award for the week of July 29 is 14-year-old Samantha Messing from Los Angeles.
How long have you been playing soccer for?
I've been playing soccer for nine years.
Who is your coach?
Coach Kim Dean.
What is your favorite thing about IMG Academy and why?
My favorite thing about IMG Academy is how all of the coaches and staff treat you. They make you feel so welcome all the time and you learn so much every single day that you're here.
Do you have any pre-game rituals that help you prepare for a big game?
I crack my knuckles and shake them out.
What professional athlete inspires you the most?
The professional athlete that inspires me the most is Mia Hamm because she worked so hard to get to the professional level and because of all of her hard work, that's why she's so good.
What is your favorite thing to do after you win a game?
After I win a game, I like to celebrate with my team. We usually just go out to eat or all hang out together by the field. Winning a game with my team is one of the greatest feelings.
What motivates you to push through a tough practice?
What motivates me to push through a tough practice is the fact that when I'm done, it will feel so good.
