Two Ascender Football Alumni Battle It Out In Tonight's CFP National Championship Game
Tonight, the #1 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide will take on the #2 ranked Clemson Tigers in the College Football Playoff National Championship, a rematch from last year’s game in which Alabama came out on top. Coming off a 26 game winning streak, Alabama will try going for their 6th National Title in the last 8 years, while Clemson will look to take home their first since 1981. While both teams bring different strengths to the table, they do have one in common. Each is represented by an IMG Academy football alum.
In Alabama’s corner, Bo Scarborough, who ran for 180 yards and two touchdowns in last week’s semifinal matchup against Washington, will look to replicate that performance again tonight. The sophomore running back graduated from IMG Academy in 2014, where he was an Under Armour All-America Game selection, a consensus five-star prospect, and rushed for 1,468 yards and 20 touchdowns in 10 games. When Scarborough arrived at Alabama in 2015, he served as the backup to Heisman Trophy winner Derrick Henry, and in 2016 was the Crimson Tide’s third-leading rusher.
Rahshaun ‘Shaq’ Smith will be after his first College Football Playoff National Championship ring tonight. The freshman linebacker for Clemson graduated from IMG Academy in 2015, after leading the Ascenders to an undefeated season with 89 tackles in just 8 games. Smith was an Under Armour All-America game selection, second-team USA Today All-American, and was rated the No. 1 outside linebacker nationally by ESPN.
Good luck to both Ascender alums in tonight’s College Football Playoff National Championship game in Tampa, FL! Tune in at 8 PM EST on ESPN.
