U17 girls soccer defender, Jacqueline Simeone, attends soccer clinic at Columbia University
IMG Academy U17 girls soccer team player, Jacqueline Simeone, known around campus as “Boston," recently returned from a soccer clinic at Columbia University. She was just one of the fifty girls invited to the clinic.
“It was tough, because it was 9:00 to 5:00 and outdoors, and I wasn’t used to the weather,” said Simeone. “[Coach] Bobby told me not to wear cold weather gear because I would look like I wasn’t tough - so, I sucked it up and it went really well.”
The clinic also gave Simeone the opportunity to visit the campus and get a feel for the environment. Columbia made a very positive impression.
“After visiting Columbia [University], I could really see myself there,” said Simeone.
Even so, the high school junior wants to make sure she finds the college that fits her best. Simeone already has clinics set up at Dartmouth and Williams, with more to be added. Ivy League schools are her preferred destination, but the defender expressed interest in some prestigious Division III schools too.
“I definitely want to go to an Ivy League school, but I’m also interested in Mercer and MIT,” said Simeone. “If I can get my SAT scores where they need to be and the coaches like the soccer, then that should be enough.”
