About Our Program

From coaches touting MLB playing and managing experience to facilities that rival any Spring Training location, the IMG Academy baseball program is the nation's premier program for dedicated baseball players who want to play at the next level. With a proven position-specific training program paired with our Performance disciplines that help athletes become stronger, faster, healthier and more confident, IMG Academy places student-athletes at all collegiate levels fully ready to contribute immediately.

Program Structure

The IMG Academy coaching staff takes a passionate and personal approach in the development of our student-athletes. Student-athletes learn a broad understanding of the mechanical, technical and mental aspects of the game and perform instinctually through extensive repetition and drill work. Student-athletes become fundamentally sound and prepared to consistently compete at a high level, with a primary focus on performance over results.

The program consists of multiple teams at the Varsity and Junior Varsity level, as well as Post-Graduate and Freshmen programs. Depending on the team, competition includes national, regional and local competition. IMG is a fully approved Florida High School Athletic Association member.

What People Have to Say About Our Program:

“Although it was tough to leave friends and family back home, this was the best move I’ve made in my life so far. It’s just another level of competition, I went from seeing most guys throwing in the ISL from 82 to 86, to the slowest guy we see throwing 88.”

“People often say that your time in college is the best 4 years of your life. Personally, nothing can compare to the four years I spent at IMG Academy. Leaving home at the age of 14, I had no idea what to expect. Now, as I look back on that day, I have 100% confidence in saying it was the best decision of my life. IMG Academy allowed me to expand my horizons, helped me work towards my goal of playing baseball at a higher level, and provided me with friendships from all over the world that will last a lifetime. I am proud to say I am an IMG Academy alumnus, and I have all the confidence in knowing that IMG Academy shaped me into the person I am today.”

"It was a difficult decision to send our only child off to IMG from home in Alaska, but it couldn’t have been a better one. Our son has thrived both in academics and in the baseball program. Not only does he carry himself with much more confidence and poise, he’s excelling in his classes and has improved tremendously in his sport. He describes himself as a “new person”… Happier, stronger, academically engaged, and following his dream of playing baseball daily.  The three of us couldn’t be happier with our choice.”

"We weren’t sure what to expect when we sent our 14-year old son to boarding school, except that we were extremely nervous and anxious. After only three months, we saw enormous growth in our son, both physically and mentally. What an amazing and fun transformation to watch! He’s become more responsible, independent, respectful, not to mention the improved athletic skill in such a short amount of time. Worth every penny we’ve paid."

Baseball FAQ

  • What colleges and universities have IMG Academy baseball players attended?

IMG Academy baseball players, along with all IMG student-athletes, work with our College Planning & Placement department to find the right school for them based on athletic skill, academic proficiency, personality and goals. This includes programs at all levels, including some of the best academic and athletic programs in the nation. Notable recent college commitments include: Stanford, Notre Dame, Virginia, Georgia Tech, West Point (Army), Brown, Arkansas, Florida, Williams, Amherst, Chicago, Pepperdine and Baylor.

  • What type of baseball development takes place off the field?

All student-athletes experience a comprehensive training program led by our Athletic and Personal Development (APD) experts. Traditionally, the program incorporates dynamic stretching sessions each day with associated speed development, three strength sessions per week, a mental conditioning (confidence/focus) session per week and one additional APD session per week which changes each 6 weeks. The additional session could be vision training, nutrition training, mental toughness, yoga, additional speed or one of our other options. This methodology has been developed over our history to help players truly understand and achieve their potential.

  • What are the backgrounds of IMG Academy baseball coaches?

Our staff has over 200 years of combined experience at the collegiate and professional levels, including coaches that have played and/or coached collegiately and played, coached, or managed at the Major/Minor League level. Director Dan Simonds spent 13 years in professional baseball with the Orioles, Cubs, and Padres, as well as 13 years in college baseball at Miami of Ohio, Xavier, and Indiana. Other notable coaches include:

    • Chris Sabo: 1988 Rookie of the Year & 3x NL All-Star with Cincinnati Reds.
    • John Ford Griffin: All-American at Florida State and Yankees 1st round draft pick
    • Anthony DeCicco: Former coach at U.S. Military Academy

  • How many teams are in the program and what is the average roster size?

Rosters are fluid based on position availability and need. The program currently consists of seven teams: Post-Graduate, 4 FHSAA Varsity level teams, 2 FHSAA Junior Varsity level teams and a 15u team. The average roster size is 15-16 players.

  • How are academic requirements balanced in the overall schedule?

Academic development is as much of a priority in our program as any other component, and it both challenges and supports student-athletes. Students attend three 90-minute class periods per day within an A/B scheduling system similar to the college environment, with one period either 2-3 times per week for study hall. Students also have access to tutors multiple days per week in the evening, and teachers attend longer road trips to help facilitate the classroom "on the road" when needed.
