Two Bradenton residents have qualified for the U.S. Women's Open, which will be held June 26-29 at Interlachen in Edina, Minn.
Victoria Tanco , 14, shot 1-over 145 for 36 holes to tie for medalist honors in sectional qualifying at Loblolly Pines Golf Course in Hobe Sound.
Jessica Korda , 15, tied for fourth at 5-over 149. After shooting an 81 in the first round, Korda bounced back with a 69 to finish in the top six.
Both girls train at the David Leadbetter Golf Academy-Bradenton.
Tanco is originally from Argentina. Korda is the daughter of former professional tennis player Petr Korda .
City 2-Man Championship
The 10th annual City 2-Man Championship is Saturday and Sunday at River Run Golf Links.
The format is four-ball stroke play for 36 holes, with teams flighted after 18 holes. The first tee times are 7:30 a.m. Saturday on the first and 10th tees.
Last year, Mike LaValliere and Drew Mitchell defeated Scott Yow and Joel Beaver in a playoff.
Bradenton resident Connor Lynch won the 12-14-year-old division of the Bagwell Junior Tournament at River Greens Golf Course in Avon Park.
Lynch shot 68-76 for a two-round score of even-par 144 on the 6,116-yard course, good for a 10-shot win.
The Greater Sarasota Junior Golf Association has created a new division called the GSJGA Elite Tour that is seeking the better-playing junior golfers in Southwest Florida.
Non-GSJGA members from all of west Florida are invited to play. Non GSJGA members are charged $15 per two-day event. There is no charge for GSJGA members.
All events are 36 holes.
