Every year IMG Academy football program Football Academy conducts holiday and spring break mini camps to assist high school athletes prepare for the next level and to enhance their exposure to college football programs.
Each camp includes a core football training program, physical conditioning and also mental conditioning with well-known and established specialists. By emphasizing untapped aspects of training for these high school athletes including mental toughness, nutrition, speed/movement and vision/reaction training these young athletes leave better equipped for the college transition.
As a plethora of college prospective football players attended this past December our coaches highlighted some player to look out for in 2012.
Coach Chris Weinke recommended:
Shane Cockerille - Baltimore, MD (Gilman School) - Class of 2013
âShane is a spread quarterback with tremendous athletic ability,â He throws the ball well on the run and throws with good accuracy. He has a good understanding of the position and placed the ball very well in 7-on-7 and 11-on-11.â
While not one prospect stood out as a sure-fire division one prospect, a small group in the Class of 2013 may attract recruiters at the FCS level. James Romul, Johnny Thomas, and Herman Israelsson all proved to have ability to be amongst the best in their areas at the high school level.
Coach Michael Gruttadauria recommended:
Jordi Dalmau - Miami, FL (Gulliver Prep) - Class of 2013
âJordi has great speed for an offensive lineman with how quickly he can move his feet, hands, and get out in space,â Gruttadauria said. âHe's quick in the box and often out works his counterpart. He needs to continue to challenge himself physically to take that next step in his senior season from his junior season.â
Coach Tom Pratt recommended:
Deadrin Senat - Immokalee, FL (Immokalee HS) - Class of 2013
âDeadrin has great athletic ability, is very quick, and has a strong desire to play as a defensive lineman,â Pratt remarked. âHe has really quick hands, and plays with tremendous up field ability and skill to escape blocks. He's going to be an upper echelon recruit; he's got a chance to be something special.â
Coach Tom Pratt recommended:
Haiden Nagel - Tampa, FL (Sickles HS) - Class of 2013
âHaiden is a big, smart, athletic linebacker prospect,â He could play inside linebacker or outside backer in a 3-4. He improved as camp went on, is very coachable, and wants to get better. He is technically sound and plays with great leverage. He has tremendous upside.â
Coach Michael Hawthorne recommended:
Eric Thompson, Jr. - Bradenton, FL (Southeast HS) - Class of 2013
âEric is the complete package,â He has size, speed, and the ability to play the ball in the air. He has pretty good hips for a bigger frame cornerback. He wants knowledge and wants to be the very best he can be.â
