IMG Academy tennis alums have dominated the Emirates Airline US Open Series events for the past two weeks. At the Bank of the West Classic in Stanford, alums Serena Williams and Heather Watson swept the singles and doubles titles.
Eight days after winning her 14th Grand Slam singles title at Wimbledon, Williams successfully defended the title by defeating CoCo Vandeweghe 7-5, 6-3.
Watson also built off her historic Wimbledon run (became the first British woman in a decade to reach the third round) by winning the doubles title in Stanford.
On Sunday, July 22, IMG alums continued their success at the BB&T Atlanta Open.
IMG alum, Ryan Harrison, partnered with Mathew Ebden to defeat fellow IMG alum, Xavier Malisse, and his partner, Michael Russel, 6-3, 3-6, 10-6 in the doubles championship.
Harrison commented after the match:
"I used this as a prep week and a good week for a doubles title. I couldn't be more excited and fired up going into next week."
The next stop for the alums will be the London Olympics, held July 28 - Aug. 5 on Wimbledon's iconic grass courts.
