The2012 Super Y-League North American Finals kicked off on Friday morning at IMG Academy with 130 teams set to compete for 12 championships. During the event, we've had the opportunity of meeting and speaking with players, coaches and parents from across North America, and here's what they had to say about their playing experience:
Cacho Cordoba, coach, Mequon U14 Girls (Mequon, Wisc.): âIt's everyone's dream to try and play for a national championship, and it has been a great experience⦠I played for 17 years professionally, and I coached professionally until seven years ago. I've retired a bit from the pro-level and am enjoying teaching. Facilities like this are a dream, and I hope we can have more of this. I believe places like this are a motivation for every single player. I am jealous of my players because I never got to play in this kind of environment.â
James Hamblin, coach, Boston Renegades U-14 girls (Boston, Mass.): âIt's been a great experience. The facilities are beautiful and the girls have taken away a lot of positives from being here."
Dylan Santos, player, Ironbound SC U-17 (Newark, N.J.): âIt's perfect here. Back in New Jersey, it's freezing. These are also probably the best fields I've ever played on. There's no grass out of place. It's great.â
Christian Hoefler, coach, Ottawa Fury Elite (Ottawa, Canada): âYou come to such a great facility here - it's very professional. It's great for the boys. It really makes them feel special to play here. Coming to a professional facility, they felt like professionals and acted like professionals. The boys learned that facilities like this help you with your career.â
Alexis Rahim, player, Internationals Soccer (Cleveland, Ohio): âIt's a lot of fun to come here and play against such great teams and competition. Plus the fields are great. The complex is great. Everything has been great.â
Dana Yaw, parent (Harrisburg, Pa.): âIt's been a nice tournament, and the facilities have been amazing. We haven't seen anything like this with the fields in the colder weather, so it's been wonderful.â
Becky Wegmann, parent (Mequon, Wisc.): âWe'll take this [weather> anytime over December in Wisconsin! As for the tournament, these girls are on top of the world. We just hope to get on the plane with a big trophy.â
