The fourth annual Kickoff Weekend football mini-camp will get underway at IMG Academy, Mar. 15-17. This year’s camp will feature more than 100 high school players from 15 states, taking the first step towards earning an invitation to the All-Madden Mini-Camp, to be held July 26-28.
“More than 30 IMG Academy football camp alumni joined D-I college programs this year, so it’s always exciting for us to help prepare them for that next level,” said Chris Weinke, Director of Football, IMG Academy. “We focus on developing players fundamentally from the ground up, whether they’re a youth, high school or veteran player in the National Football League.
The three-day Kickoff Weekend is modeled after an NFL mini-camp. Players undergo individual position work, in addition to classroom film study sessions. Players also advance through intense 1-on-1, 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 competition.
Collectively, IMG Academy’s coaching staff, led by Chris Weinke, boasts extensive experience at the high school, collegiate and professional levels. During Kickoff Weekend, players will receive the same coaching that participants in this year’s IMG Academy NFL Combine Training Program received. The 2013 Combine Training Program featured 42 coveted NFL Draft prospects, including projected first-rounders such as Luke Joeckel (Texas A&M); Sharrif Floyd (Florida); Bjoern Werner (Florida State); Geno Smith (West Virginia); Manti Te’o (Notre Dame); Tyler Eifert (Notre Dame); Matt Barkley (USC) and Sheldon Richardson (Missouri).
