IMG Academy is hosting the USATF/IAAF Academy for Sprints and Hurdles, Dec. 8-14, 2013. Nearly 40 track and field coaches for all over the world will take in lectures and demonstrations from many of the world’s foremost experts on speed and the biomechanics of sprinting and hurdling. Upon completion of the week-long Academy, participants will receive the IAAF Academy diploma, the highest recognized achievement awarded through the IAAF Coaches Education and Certification System (CECS).
Participants in the Academy will learn from a roster of experts that includes:
Loren Seagrave - Seagrave is IMG Academy’s Director of Track & Field and Cross Country, and event leader in the Sprints and Hurdles for IAAF Academy around the globe. He is a world-renowned coach and lecturer, and acclaimed lead instructor for USATF Coaching Education.
Ralph Mann - Mann is the USATF Lead Sport Scientist for biomechanics of for Sprinting and Hurdling and the Lead Sport Scientist for IAAF Academy. Mann is also a noted lecturer and author on high performance topics for sprints. Mann also consults with the IMG Academy during the preparation of players for the NFL Combine and with its Major League Baseball Player Development Program
Dr. Robert Chapman – Dr. Chapman is the USATF Associate Director of Sport Science and Indiana University’s Assistant Professor of Kinesiology. He is an expert in energy system physiology and also an accomplished coach
John Smith - Smith is a world-renowned sprint/hurdle coach, and Lead Coach instructor for the USA-based IAAF Academy. He is also a hurdle/sprint laboratory specialist. Some of his athletes include gold medalists and world record holders Maurice Green, Kevin Young and his two current protégés Cameletta Jeter and Jason Richardson.
Dr. Denise Wood – Dr. Wood is a former USATF international thrower, and now serves as a specialist in motor learning. She is a member of USATF Coaching Education sport science instructors.
The week-long coaching academy will also offer participants instruction from IAAF and IMG Academy Athletic & Personal Development experts.
Since adding a Track & Field and Cross Country program this fall, along with the completion of its state-of-the-art stadium, IMG Academy has emerged as a leading destination for track and field events. IMG Academy is also the training home for numerous professional track and field athletes, including U.S. Olympians like 2008 400m Olympic gold medalist and 2013 IAAF World Chanmpion in the 400m who recently was awarded the prestigious 2013 Jesse Owens Athlete of the Year, LaShawn Merritt, and 2012 4x100m relay Olympic gold medalist, Tianna Bartoletta, who lead off the world record run in London.
