Former IMG Academy student-athlete Charlie Horton prepares for unique opportunity with English professional soccer club

HUNTING VALLEY, Ohio – Charlie Horton is going for it.

Horton is just 18, and still thinks of himself as a kid, even as he is setting up an apartment in England and buying a car.

He does not want to be an older adult with regrets.

So, last week, fresh out of University School, Horton spurned a soccer scholarship to play for 2011 NCAA champion North Carolina. He signed on July 22 with Peterborough United, a professional soccer team in England's League One, the country's third-division professional league, two rungs below the famed Premier League.
